Montemonaco

Montemonaco, situated in the heart of the National Park of the Sibillini mountains, is so called because some Benedictine monks, the first colonizers of this mountain region, found refuge and solitude on this height. We suggest you visit the many churches, among them the church of San Benedetto, containing a fresco in the same style of Crivelli's one, the church of San Giovanni Battista, dated back to the XIV century, and the thirteenth-century Gothic church of Santa Maria in Casalicchio, which in the past has been a shrine of high religious interest and destination of many pilgrimage.
